Salesiana Textbooks is Don Bosco Press, Inc.’s flagship product line. The aim of every Salesiana Textbook is to aid the teachers in the wholistic formation of his or her students.

English for Global Communication
English for Global Communication is a series written for Grade School students from Prep to Grade 6. This series focuses on both reading and language functions that intend to make the Filipino learner a competent communicator. It provides varied activities that allow the students to work as a team and at the same time, enjoy quality learning. Furthermore, the learning activities provided in each book are challenging, meaningful, and enriched to enhance the learners’ comprehension, sharpen their communication skills oral and written to help them develop their profi ciency in self-expression and interaction with others using the English Language.

The different components in every lesson in each book make the learners think analytically, critically. The activities and exercises centered on the development of the macro skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The stories are selected to provide lessons in life, insights and messages that portrayed positive character development. In the end, it hoped that this series shall lead the learner to become a better student and a better person as a whole.

Grade 1

Author: Ms. Leticia Malaluan-Silla

  • Graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the National Teachers College, Manila
  • Took some units in Fine Arts from the Philippine Womens University, Manila
  • Earned 30 units in Educational Management and Supervision at the Philippine Normal College, Manila
  • Took Masteral Studies on School Leadership at De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila
  • Taught at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati for 39 years and retired after serving as a principal for 11 years

Author: Ms. Cecile Vergara-Sumanqui

  • Graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education with specialization in Reading from the Philippine Normal University, Manila
  • Finished her Master of Education major in School Leadership at De La Salle University
  • Taught at St. Marys Academy, Sta. Ana Manila for five years and became the Preschool coordinator on her fifth year
  • Taught Language and Reading at Colegio San Agustin, Makati City
  • Is a Grade One teacher and moderator of the Young Writers Club at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati City

  • Graduated with the degree of Bachelor in Elementary Education, major in Teaching in the Elementary Grades from the University of the Philippines
  • Has completed the academic requirements for MA in Reading at the Philippine Normal University, Manila
  • Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs for SY 2009-2010 in Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati
  • Subject Area Head of Reading from 2004-2008 in Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati

Author: Ms. Modest Rubylyn R. Cordero

  • Graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Education from Miriam College, Quezon City
  • English teacher at Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati for the last ten years. Taught Reading and Language Art from Preparatory Level to Grade Three
  • Presently, taking up units in Reading Education at Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City

  • Graduated cum laude with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education major in English from Angeles University Foundation, Angeles City
  • Completed the academic requirements in Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management from the same university
  • Taught English at Angeles University Foundation from 1998-2003
  • Has been teaching in Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati since 2003

  • Graduated magna cum laude with a degree of Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in English from Saint Ferdinand College in Ilagan, Isabela
  • Grade School Principal-in-charge at Advance Montessori Education Center of Isabela at Tumauini, Isabela on her first year of teaching
  • Salesian Educator at Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati (Christian Living and English) since June 2005

  • Taught kindergarten in two schools from 1975 to 1980. In 1981, she moved to Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati and taught the Preparatory Level for two years and presently teaching English in Grades Three to Five

  • Graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in English and has earned her MA Units in Reading, Philippine Normal University, Manila
  • First employed in Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati as an English teacher in the High School Department, 1984-1985
  • Taught Language and Reading to Grades 4, 5, and 6 students, 1985-2005
  • Assumed the position of Subject Area Head in Language Arts, 2005-2008
